Spirited Performance

The 2023 BMW i4 offers a choice of engines to satisfy different tastes. The base i4 eDrive35 has a rear-mounted current-excited electric motor producing 281 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. The i4 eDrive40 also has a single electric motor and a rear-wheel-drive configuration. However, it offers much more output at 335 horsepower and 317 lb-ft of torque.

Those who desire two motors should consider the 2023 i4 M50, which has two electric motors combining to make 536 hp and 586 lb-ft of torque. As evident in their configurations, the first two powertrains feature a rear-wheel drive setup, while the i4 M50 engine has an all-wheel drive.

The entry-level i4 eDrive35 is outfitted with a high-voltage 66.0-kWh lithium-ion battery pack that provides 260 miles of driving range. The eDrive40 and M50 feature an 81.5-kWh lithium-ion battery pack providing up to 301 and 270 miles, respectively.

Using a DC fast charger, owners can recharge the i4’s battery from 10 percent capacity to 80% in around 32 minutes. With a 240-volt home, you can charge the battery to full capacity in about eight hours.
